The much anticipated AKEN annual rummage sale was held together with the Friends’ Bake Sale, in honour of Estonia’s 100’th anniversary this year on Saturday, May 5. Hundreds came out, whether to bake or eat, and most everyone found something to buy and enjoy. We celebrated the Estonian flag as we navigated the crowds through the Blue-Black and White decorated halls and enjoyed each others’ company. We were treated to visits by the “hellakesed,” and by the youngest of the Kungla dancers, who performed right in the middle of the café.
The proceeds were in excess of $2000 for the café alone. A heartfelt thank you to all the bakers and to everyone who helped with the Blue-Black-White Friends' Cafe: Eneke Mirka, Siiri Valter, Kai Kiilaspea, Paul Kiilaspea, Kati Kiilaspea, Ivi Kiilaspea, Katariina Jaenes, Allan Meiusi, Ilmar Leppik, Leena Temisevä, Matti Temisevä, Ülle Veltmann, Koidu Sulev, Christina Dixon, Koidu Konze, Maaja Matsoo, Elle Rosenberg, Marina Väli, Selma Sarapuu, Nelly Hubel, Maret Kapp, Ester Kivi,Heidi Kuus, Kay Tüll, Annaliisa McConville, Linda Laikve, Aime Nurmse, Erika Jõgi. A big thank you to friends who cheered us on, such as Maret Truuvert and Mare Kask and a special thanks to our youngest helpers Viola Beatty, Elizabeth Eaton.
