The three major candidates ready to take the mantle of The Honourable Margarett Best MPP, Liberal, are NDP candidate Adam Giambrone, Progressive Conservative Ken Kirupa and Liberal Mitzy Hunter.
Giambrone was the former chair of the TTC during the rein of Mayor David Miller and heir apparent to the NDP throne. He however crashed and burned when he had sex with a staffer in his office while engaged to his now wife. His sin was that he lied about it to the media.
Giambrone, who was on the NDP candidate selection committee for the riding convinced (Ms) Amarjeet Kaur Chhabra, a handicapped union organizer to run for the nomination then ran himself against her and only won by a few votes. Chhabra was going to take him to court.
When Giambrone was TTC chair he summarily ignored Scarborough. Now he believes in LRT's not subways.
Kirupa, an immigrant from Sri Lanka 25 years ago has a background in finance and real estate, has always believed in subways (the overwhelming issue in the riding) and no transit taxes.
Hunter grew up in Scarborough and went to school there (U of T Scarborough, plus a MBA at Rotman). Hunter is CEO of the Greater Toronto Civic Action Alliance previously CAO of the Toronto Community Housing Corporation, and vice president of Goodwill. In other words minister material.
Hunter believed in LRT's last week, subways this week (when the polls told them so). But she also came together with the 1.4 billion dollars shortfall between Toronto and what is needed to make the subway happen.
Hunter, a born again subway advocate is even endorsed by former progressive conservative leader John Tory.
(Some Estonian insist the riding should be re-named Ehatare-Eesti Kodu.)
