Appeal for Help

Close to 2000 people have signed the petition to Save St. Peter’s Estonian Evangelical Church. Many have spoken eloquently about the need to save this legacy of ours in Canada.

We now need YOUR urgent help to save the beautiful green-roofed architectural gem known as St. Peter’s Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church at 817 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, designed by famous architect Mihkel (Michael) Bach. The church is at a crossroads in its history. Current management proposed that the church be sold to a developer. A recent vote held in March stopped the sale of the church, but just barely. The Executive of the congregation announced their resignation. An appeal concerning this vote has been made. There is a lot of work to be done to ensure the continued existence of the church. Time is of the essence!

We are a group of volunteer individuals composed of church members and non-members who care and believe in the future of the church. Our goal is to save the church. We are suggesting a new vision and new ways of moving forward. You may read more about us on our website. Please also consider signing the two petitions listed on the homepage.

If you are an interested admirer of architectural history; a member of the community concerned about future development; a fellow Christian wanting to save a church; an immigrant wanting to save a piece of the development and growth of Canada that the church represents; or a current, past, or future congregation member, then we desperately need your help!

Your financial help is needed to help us to continue our goal of saving the church. We need funds to cover expenses such as website fees, and fees for consultation with experts in their fields concerning future options, and ways of moving forward.

We are not authorized church representatives, and therefore tax receipts are not available. You may contribute anonymously.

Any financial support, big or small, is very gratefully appreciated. Thank you!

Please note that we have started a GoFundMe page to pay for consulting fees to continue the goal of saving St. Peter’s. Visit the GoFundMe page here.

Any donation, in any amount would be very much appreciated. You can donate anonymously if you prefer. When GoFundMe asks for a tip, you can enter 0.
