How do you make Estonian literature more relevant to North American readers?

There is plenty of quality Estonian literature written every year. But why is it not reaching a bigger English-speaking market? Perhaps this is a relevant question at this time, as 2025 is the Year of the Estonian Book (as featured in the January 21st, 2025 Eesti Elu article by Dr. Daiga Helmeste).

With this in mind, I recently spoke to the head of the Estonian Writers’ Union (somewhat comparable to the Canadian Authors Association), Maarja Kangro, about why so little Estonian literature is translated into other languages and in particular, into English.
