All About the Nordic Artists of New York’s Flagship Show “TRUE NORTH”

On April 22nd, Nordic Artists of New York (NANY) will present their flagship show, TRUE NORTH—a dynamic celebration of Nordic and Baltic performance and visual arts.

The event, which will take place at the New York Estonian house, unfolds in three parts. First, it begins with an immersive gallery exhibition, inviting guests to wander through “Nordic forests, lakes and volcanoes expressed through a wide range of mediums, including music, dance, theatre, film, painting, sculpture, handicrafts, and spoken word. The exhibition features work from over 40 New-York based Nordic and Baltic artists, representing eight different countries,” according to the press release on EIN Presswire.

“The line-up consists of internationally acclaimed creators such as Oskar Stenmark (Trumpetist from Sweden), Arta Jēkabsone (Jazz Vocalist from Latvia), Riivo Kruuk (Muralist from Estonia), Elsa Nilsson (Flutist from Sweden), Sari Nordman (Interdisciplinary Artist from Finland), Johannes Linneballe (Classical Singer from Denmark), Michaela Lind (Theater Artist from Sweden), Timothy Johnson (Jazz Guitarist from Norway), Vytenis Jankunas (Photographer from Lithuania), Lara Knutson (Painter from Norway), Marko Vuorinen (Documentary Filmmaker from Finland), Kristi Roosmaa (Singer from Estonia), Sonja Haapamäki (Actress from Finland), and many others,” according to EIN Presswire.

“Many of us come from far-flung countries to pursue art in this city. NANY is our way of uniting these talents, supporting each other, and sharing our heritage with the NYC community.

Finnish-born, New York-based singer-songwriter and producer Petra Jasmiina founded NANY to bring together Nordic and Baltic artists in the city: “Nordic Artists of New York is about building community,” she says of NANY’s website. “Many of us come from far-flung countries to pursue art in this city. NANY is our way of uniting these talents, supporting each other, and sharing our heritage with the NYC community. TRUE NORTH is the culmination of that mission – it’s about coming together and creating an experience larger than any single artist or discipline.”

The second part of the evening is a seated live performance, described by NANY as a showcase of prominent Nordic and Baltic performers, “featuring performances by global kanklės-ambassador Simona Smirnova, multi-talented composer and creator of ‘Mycelium’ Sirintip, internationally acclaimed composer and singer-songwriter Johanna Telander, New York's very own Scandinavian American Theatre Company and award-winning singer-songwriters Petra Jasmiina, Eeppi Ursin, and Ida Metsberg.”

The evening concludes with a meet-and-greet reception with food and drinks.
