FinEst Tunnel: Why Some Projects Take Time but Pay Off

As an Estonian living abroad, I first learned about the plans to build a rail tunnel between Estonia and Finland while working for a Finnish entrepreneur trying to advance this project. From 2022 to 2024, I worked remotely for one of his companies.

Part of my job was arranging his visits to Brazil. He would get project updates over the phone during his trips. I remember him being frustrated by how long it took, mainly blaming politics and funding.

I then researched the project and really liked the rail tunnel idea. It reminds me of the Eurotunnel connecting mainland Europe and the UK. I used to take the Eurostar often. My mother lives in Belgium, and I studied in the UK from 2008 to 2012, so I frequently travelled between London and Brussels.

Taking the Eurostar was cheaper than flying, and it was quick, taking about two hours. The seats were comfortable and spacious, and I enjoyed nice drinks and snacks from the bar cart. It was also the perfect opportunity to do some studying.
