Talent Pools, Industrial Incentives, and Other Reasons to Do Business in Estonia

In my last article, I set the scene on Estonia’s appeal as a gateway to Europe for Canadian industry, especially considering widespread digitalization.

Beyond its digital prowess, though, Estonia’s greatest asset may well be its engineering talent. Decades of investment in STEM education and close ties between universities and industry have produced a generation of engineers who are as comfortable designing automated production lines as they are leading multinational teams.

Canadian investors often worry about talent shortages in Europe. So what’s the situation in Estonia? Speaking from inside the country, one can confidently say that we have world-class human capital. Our engineers and technicians are highly skilled, multilingual, and adaptable. 86% of adults speak at least one foreign language, often English, Russian, Finnish, or German. This makes communication with international partners easy.
