This year marks the 20th anniversary of Montreal’s Baltic Artists Association. The annual art show of the BAA has become well-known for its high standards, and this year was no different. Despite an inconvenient transit strike, a surprisingly large number of art enthusiasts crowded the Viva Vida Art Gallery in Pointe Claire for the vernissage. Among the dignitaries present were Egidijus Meilūnas, Lithuanian Ambassador to Canada, Margus Rava, Estonian Ambassador to Canada, and Andrej Vitols, President Montreal Latvian Center.
The president Ann Kallaste-Kruzelecky opened the exhibition with best wishes received from both Andris Kesteris, President, BCC (Baltic Canadian Council) and Roberts Klaise, Montreal Honorary Consul of Latvia. She continued with an overview of the past twenty years, giving special emphasis to the strong, continued collaboration among our three Baltic artist groups.
Estonian artists who exhibited this year were: Ann Kallaste-Kruzelecky, Isabella Sonnsjö Borrelli, Mai Koppel, Piret Koppel, Allan Sutt, Hille Viires.
The next BAA event will be the annual pot-luck Christmas party to be held on Thursday November 27th – 7:00PM Latvian House, 3955 Provost in Lachine. Donated gifts would be gratefully accepted for the BAA famous lottery. This year’s guest speaker will be Jeanie Trubiano, a professional photographer and long-time member of Professional Photographers of Canada.
