Sitting down to teach your children Estonian (or any new language) can be time consuming. Using resources specifically designed for young learners can make the process much easier and more enjoyable for both parents and kids—plus, the end result is certainly worth it!

One great option is the YouTube channel “The Sound Of Estonian,” which features eleven short videos covering the basics, including self-introductions, greetings, vocabulary, numbers, verbs, and fun facts about the language! These videos are ideal for introducing basic concepts and for learning authentic pronunciation through clear, back-and-forth repetition.

For example, their video “Learn Estonian – SELF INTRODUCTION,” teaches simple introductions in just under three minutes. Common phrases such as “hello, my name is,” “nice to meet you,” and “I am from,” are spoken both slowly and at a natural pace, helping children hear how the language sounds in real life. This style is useful for both independent learning or with the guidance from a parent.
