Worry about the future of Estonian House in Toronto

The Estonian Memoir Writers Group in Toronto is most concerned about the future of the Estonian House in Toronto and have drafted a petition for like-minded Estonians to sign. The signed petition will be presented to the Toronto Eesti Maja executive at the next general meeting with request to carry out the outlined action.

"We, the undersigned, are concerned about the future of the Toronto Estonian House and feel that our cultural and community bastion should remain at the present location, not be demolished, but renovated, and upgraded to present day standards."

The petition sheets are available for signing at the Estonian House Cafe, the Tartu College bulletin board and forms may be obtained from Maie Ilves 416-767-6464, and Guido Laikve 416-444-6405.

Almost 300 people have already added their name to the list and you can do the same.

The proposed demolition of our beloved Estonian House will erase it forever and it can never be restored. It is a permanent act, that will destroy not only the physical building, but also eliminates the beneficial on-going uses, the convenience, the accessibility, the availability, the need and the continuing stream of future income from our Estonian House.

It is important that we be “MASTERS IN OUR OWN HOUSE” and not controlled by decisions of others.

Nothing will commence until the shareholders have cast their votes. This is an important decision that will have serious consequences for all of us and therefore needs a clear mind and conscience.
