INSTITUT, Estonian Music Week, and VEMU present: Puuluup live in Toronto.

Elegantly dressed gentlemen with gloriously deadpan sense of humour, playing the ancient Nordic string instrument talharpa — through effects pedals, weird choreography and made-up languages.

PUULUUP directs the vibrations of the talharpa’s horsehair strings through effects, pairing mellow sighs with electronically amplified echoes, knocks, creaks and crackles — delightfully slinky songs about all possible random things.

This concert is VOLUME 12 of the INSTITUT series. Every week, a different hypothesis. Underground at 620 Spadina Ave – around the back, through the lot to the steel doors, down the stairs, past the mechanical room, through the swinging wood laminate door…

Come early for KRYVA KOSA at 5PM or a live soundtrack of Elevator to the Gallows with RUDY RAY at 7PM, and stay for SHAUNT RAFFI on vinyl at 11PM. Please RSVP even though it’s PWYC so we know who to expect.

PUULUUP are elegantly dressed gentlemen with gloriously deadpan senses of humour, playing the ancient Nordic string instrument talharpa. They direct the vibrations of the talharpa’s horsehair strings through effects using alternative bowing and rhythm techniques, pairing mellow sighs with electronically amplified echoes, knocks, creaks and crackles. Their lyrics combine many languages alongside Puuluup’s own made-up language — mostly abstract and open to interpretation — seasoned with weird choreography. Puuluup has performed in around 40 countries, received dozens of awards, and made it to the Eurovision Song Contest finals.

Puuluup on 2014.a loodud ansambel, mida Vikipeedias on kirjaldatud kui nu-folk-ansambel. Hiiu kandleid (talharpasid) mängivad ja laulavad Ramo Teder (kes on esinenud sooloprojektides esinejanimega Pastacas) ja antropoloogiharidusega Marko Veisson. Vikipeedia andmetel nimetavad esinejad ise ansambli stiili ,,neozombipostfolgiks“ põhjendusega, et väljasurnud Hiiu kandle mäng on ellu ärganud ja esineb zombina.

Kes on Puuluupi kord esinemas kuulnud-näinud, läheb hea meelega taas nende kontserdile. Kes pole neid veel näinud, siis on selleks hea võimalus juba juulikuus. Torontos esinetakse 16. juulil (vt info juuresoleval kuulutusel), mujal on esinemise ajad ja kohad järgmised:
