Since its first days 67 years ago, EKKT has enjoyed the inclusion of art by guest artists from various culturally diverse backgrounds. Their specializations have included architecture, engineering, technology, social advocacy, and environmental appreciation. This year EKKT is honoured to have well-known Latvian-Canadian artist and a member of LATVIS Art Association Dace Birkhans, Lithuanian-Canadian artist and a member of the Baltic Art Association, former engineer John (Gytis) Vazalinskas from Montreal, Women’s Art Association of Canada (Toronto) artist, curator and author Dixie Allen, and Estonian artists Proomet Torga, Kärt Ojavee and Johanna Ulfsak whose stories and interesting works have earlier been featured in Eesti Elu newspaper. Also presenting is Ukrainian-Canadian artist, art therapist and university adjunct educator Olena Darewych. Olena facilitates digital art for people with autism, and as a member of the organization Help Us Help The Children, she provides art therapy for youth-orphans in Ukraine.
On Thursday, October 14th, the opening reception will feature guest speaker Architect Eneri Taul, OAA, well-known in the Estonian community. A special musical performance will be The Topaz Duo, Kaili Maimets on flute and Angela Schwarzkopf on harp. Kaili and Angela have previously performed at the 2021 CBC’s Juno Classical Showcase Concert and have collaborated on a new album of work called Lumina that also includes music by Kaili’s brother, composer Riho Maimets. The evening will also provide a chance for guests to purchase and sample Kalev Nisbet’s award-winning craft beer.
The exhibition runs from Wednesday, October 12th to Sunday, October 23rd with gallery hours 11am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday. Our virtual exhibition starts October 1st, 2022 at https://www.estonianartiststoronto.com/ .
