Estonian Life No. 13 2019
Russia Today RT) was established in the mid-2000s to oppose what the Kremlin perceived as the dominance of U.S. and British media organizations. The channel is now seen by observers as giving a forum to extreme right or anti-establishment figures who attack what they and Moscow insist are Western hypocrisy and corruption.
The channel also gives ample opportunity to have the voices of conspiracy to be heard, no matter how bizarre or outrages the message. While a conspiracy theory originally meant a pre-formed conclusion, an idea that an event or phenomenon was the result of a conspiracy, it now denotes ridiculous, unfounded, misconceived, irrational speculation theories.
It seems that the only real 'news' RT broadcasts is re-used stories from Reuters and other wire services. RT sometimes comes close to real news, when they broadcast stories that don't have any connection to the U.S. or any Russian interests.
