The fresh season already kicked off with a choir retreat hosted by conductor Rosemarie Lindau and Peeter Toome at their cottage in Collingwood in August. This was a great way to build up excitement for upcoming practices and have a celebratory get-together.
Our first official practice took place on the evening of Monday, September 8th, where Rosemarie (who we affectionately call Roosi) and recently elected choir board co-chairs Elli Kipper and Carmen Kehman warmly welcomed all returning and new singers. We had a great turnout and even had virtual participants from Halifax – it was truly great to be back together. A scaled down version of the choir also participated in the Song Festival in Estonia this summer, which was an unbelievable experience for all involved.

So what are we setting our sights on at the moment? Currently, we’re practicing for our upcoming Simmaree performance, which will take place in the fall this time around due to practicing for the Song Festival taking priority this past winter and spring. The Coffee House Simmaree will be a little different from our usual performances, taking place on November 15th at a new location – the well-known Tranzac Club (292 Brunswick Ave.), which is just a short walk from Tartu College. We have a great program in store for you, featuring choral arrangements of classic tunes, solo performances, and special ensembles. As a special treat, we also have the popular Kalevipogues as guest performers and a backing band for the choir. This will be a musical experience you won’t want to miss – bring your singing voices because you’ll be able to sing along with us! Tickets will be on sale soon so stay tuned!
