You’re dressed to the nines and your friends and family are all coming over. But hold on, something’s missing…
Of course—the food and drinks! Christmas means a lot of different things depending on who you speak to, but one thing that ties it all together is the enjoyment of food. When we spend so much time running from place to place, it’s eating that gets us to sit down together, to be still, and to be present.
Food is also a means to participate in our culture. Even if our day-to-day is otherwise North American in identity, we will often come back to the traditional dishes of our cultural roots. Favourites of our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and then us. Better yet, all of the family will make those dishes together.
To encourage that spirit of being together, enjoying simple pleasures, and to round out the Christmas season, Eesti Elu / Estonian Life will soon present its first food feature in print and online at eestielu.ca .
Did you know that since Eesti Elu launched its new website in autumn 2022, we’ve published over 150 new recipes?
Of course, the best place to start exploring food is by trying out new recipes. Did you know that since Eesti Elu launched its new website in autumn 2022, we’ve published over 150 new recipes? If you haven’t already, look through the Food & Home section online or in past print editions for countless weekly recipes and cooking tips.
And then sharpen your knives, because there’s more coming! If you’re tired of turkey, Estonian cooking hero Paul Lillakas will be sharing a pork recipe with us that’s sure to become a hit among your family and friends.
If video recipes are your thing, we’re in the midst of creating new videos for you to follow along with in the kitchen. Among these is a piparkook (gingerbread cookie) tutorial presented by the Lokk sisters, guiding you from dough to cookie designs.
If you need verivorstid for Christmas Eve, eestielu.ca will be the best place to find stores and community members who sell them.
Being your central source for what’s going on in your community, we’ll also be sharing information on where to get Estonian entrées, deli items, and baked goods for the holiday season. Find catering for your Christmas party through our extensive business directory. If you need verivorstid for Christmas Eve, eestielu.ca will be the best place to find stores and community members who sell them. We’ll also be reviewing a large bakery and café in Toronto’s west end that will add an authentic taste of Europe to this time of year.
All of this is coming out on Friday December 8th. Mark your calendars, keep visiting our website, and encourage everyone you know to subscribe for a feature that will fill your heart (and stomach) with Christmas spirit!
