Are you ready to start on a beautiful set of Estonian mittens? Estonian Arts Centre, the charity associated with KESKUS, and Seedrioru Estonian Summer Camp are offering two opportunities to participate in an Estonian mitten knitting workshop, one in Toronto, the other at Seedrioru’s midsummer festivities as part of the entrance fee.
For Toronto, your immersion in the art of knitting Estonian mittens will take place over the course of 2 evenings, June 21st and 22nd.
There’s limited to sign up – you need to register by June 7th*!
Unlock Estonian craft traditions
Estonian knitting has a long history, and is known for its unique patterns, vibrant colours, and even unique knitting stitches and casting-on. On registration, you will select the mitten pattern from the region of your choosing, and the yarns will be in traditional dark blue and white. All material costs are included in the registration fee of $85, and the workshop spans two evenings. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced knitter, this workshop offers learnings for everyone.
Limited number of participants, expert instruction
The workshop is limited to 15 participants. This small group setting allows the expert instructors from Estonia to provide individual attention to each participant, addressing specific needs, questions, and skill levels.
With years of experience, Anu Randmaa and Anu Pink, from Estonia’s Folk Art and Craft Union, and their assistants will guide you through getting your mittens going and ensure that you have the knowledge to take the project to completion. They will also share stories and insights, providing context and inspiration for your creation, such as how it is that your hand-knit mittens just might ward off evil!
Materials Provided
To make your workshop experience as seamless as possible, the $85 fee includes all the necessary materials. Participants will receive a knitting kit assembled specifically for the workshop, containing high-quality yarn, knitting needles, and a detailed pattern guide.
Don't miss out on this exceptional opportunity to learn (or improve) your knitting skills for the art of Estonian mitten knitting. Register by June 7th* for the June 21st and 22nd for this immersive 2-evening workshop running from 1900 to 2030h both nights, at Tartu College, 310 Bloor St. W., through the entrance on Madison Ave.
