My name is Marc-Andre Perron. I’m a fourth-year sport-media student at Toronto Metropolitan University. I am a huge sports fan, with soccer, basketball, and hockey being my favourite sports. I have been an active member of the Estonian community for my whole life. Spending summers at Jõekääru Estonian Children’s Camp as both a camper and a counsellor, I’ve graduated from Eesti Kool (elementary level Estonian school) and Gümnasium (high school level) and been a teacher at Lasteaed (kindergarten). However, Põhjakotka Skaudid is the part of the Estonian community where I remain the most active.
Growing up, I spent many summers at Kotkajärve as a Skaut (scout) and Vendur (senior scout), and since 2022 I have served as a Skaut and Venduri Juht (senior scout leader) every summer. This year was no exception: I oversaw the aptly named “SõrmeKüla” campsite (“Finger Village” in English), a tongue-in-cheek nod to the many skaudid who have injured a finger or two during their time at Kotkajärve.
The boys were kept busy all week with a wide range of outdoor activities. As always, there were camp staples like swimming, ziplining, and the tutvumismäng (icebreaker game). Toward the end of the week, the whole camp headed out for a well-deserved field trip to Tree-Top Trekking, giving the kids a chance to blow off some steam.
