Conservative candidate Rouge Park, Ms.Leslyn Lewis spoke to Eesti Kodu residents on October 14

In an event organized by Prof. (ret) Ruho Paluoja, Conservative candidate for the newly formed riding of Rouge Park Ms. Leslyn Lewis spoke to the residents of Eesti Kodu. Also present was former Brian Mulroney era minister the Hon. Pauline Browes (who was very active on Estonian issues during the Estonian independence struggles).

Lewis is not just a lawyer, a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity College at the University of Toronto, a MBA concentration in business and environment from the Schulich School of Business, a Juris Doctorate from Osgoode Hall Law School and is in the final stages of completing her PhD in Law at the Osgoode Hall Law School. Lewis heads up her eight person law firm.

She is very proud of immigrant roots, she came to Canada at age five (from Jamaica) with her parents (who now live in Scarborough Rouge Park) who she credits as encouraging her success.

Besides her ongoing impressive academic degrees and activities she has time for many community activities which include the United Nations, Women's Legal Action Fund and the Ontario Round Table on the Environment and Economy.

Chair of the Eesti Kodu cultural committee, Aino Müllerbeck asked Lewis what the Conservative position was on defending the Baltics from Russia's incursions. Lewis pointed out that Prime Minister Stephen Harper had stood actively against Russia's annexation of Crimea and in further questioning said Harper was active in defending the Baltics. Lewis didn't mention that Harper had sent six Canadian fighter jets to defend Baltic airspace for three months several years ago already.

Lewis is involved in environmental issues and is proud of the fact that Prime Minister Harper created Rouge Park as a national park which is twenty two times larger than New York city's Central Park.

Lewis is a highly educated and enthusiastically active person who would likely be ministerial material in a few years.
