EV102 celebrations in Montreal

In a few words prior to the annual general meeting at the luncheon commemorating the 71st anniversary of the church, Tiiu Põldma recalled that since its inception in 1949, the Montreal Estonian church has been the foundation of the Estonian community life in Montreal. Pastor Karl Raudsepp moved the congregation to its current premises in 1952 and the halls of the church have been the community centre ever since. She mentioned how proud the congregation is to be celebrating this anniversary.

It’s been a busy time at the church with multiple activities in February, Amin them the Montreal Estonian Society annual general meeting on February 9th. Then on February 16th the St.Michael’s Finnish congregation welcomed Pastor Mira Salmelainen as their new pastor. The installation service was performed by Dean Jim Slack on behalf of Bishop Pryse.

This was followed by the Estonian Church Council installation and EV102 celebrations on February 23, 2020.

On Sunday, February 23rd the Montreal Estonian community celebrated the 102 nd anniversary of Estonian Independence. That same weekend the previous evening, the Montreal Estonian Society celebrated with the showing of the movie Tode ja Oigus. The Sunday festivities began with a church service also commemorating the installation of the Montreal Estonian church Council. After the service, the Estonian hymn was sung and a luncheon served. Festivities included poetry readings by Hille Viires and some remarks by Tiiu Põldma
