Triumf Health was founded in 2016 to provide personalized psychological support, behavioural change techniques and education to children with chronic diseases and cancer. These concepts might sound very sophisticated, but the company approached their target group, children aged 7 to 14, in their own language—with a mobile game. In Triumf Hero, children get to be superheroes battling the Disease Monster, learning about their disease, and implementing healthy habits at the same time. And of course, each superhero needs a trusty sidekick. Children pick an animal character that never leaves the hero's side. They guide the children through the game, help them understand emotions and give suggestions on what to do when they feel bad.
When the pandemic started, the company realized that it is not only children with chronic conditions who need help. This stressful time had an effect on all kids, despite their health situation. Hence, an extension to the game was born. The game still focused on managing mental health, but also delivered age-appropriate information and guidance about COVID.
