Kanada Day in Tallinn 2025!

June 4, 2025 – Toronto – Tallinn – A major Canada Day celebration will take place in Tallinn, Estonia, on July 1, 2025, at the vibrant Põhjala Brewery in the heart of the city. Coinciding with the ESTO global Estonian cultural festival, the event promises to be one of the largest gatherings of Canadian Estonians outside North America this year.

At the heart of the festivities will be a pick-up road hockey game, organized in collaboration with the Estonian Ice Hockey Federation, offering a lively nod to Canada’s national pastime. The celebration will also mark the official launch of the Association of Canadian Estonians (ACE) – a diverse new organization representing the interests of Canadian Estonians in both Estonia and Canada.

“The Canada Day events we organized in 2014 and 2019 were wildly popular, drawing over 500 participants from across Estonia, Canada, Sweden, and the United States,” said Märt Matsoo, co-chair of the Canada Day organizing committee and founding member of ACE. “This year’s celebration will build on that success, with top Estonian craft beers, music, special appearances, and a pick-up hockey game that will bring together friends old and new.”

The Kanada Day organizing committee members are Jaan Kittask, Tarmo Saks, Peter Roose, Paul Marley, Krista Leesment, Daniel Schaer and Taimo Ilves. Event partners are Jõekääru Estonian Children’s Camp, Eesti Elu Newspaper, Estonian Music Week, The Estonian Foundation of Canada and VEMU.

“In addition to celebrating Canada, this year’s event will highlight an important milestone: the appointment of Canada’s first resident Ambassador to Estonia,” added co-chair Marcus Kolga. “This historic achievement is due in large part to the tireless advocacy of the members of the Association of Canadian Estonians and Minister Chrystia Freeland, who championed the initiative.”

Kolga continued: “As our late friend and mentor, Honorary Consul Laas Leivat, reminded us, unity among Estonians – especially in the face of current geopolitical challenges – is more important than ever. This celebration will also serve as a tribute to Laas’s vision and leadership, and a symbol of solidarity among Estonians around the world.”

The event is free and open to all and is expected to draw a diverse crowd of Canadians, Estonians, and international guests.
