Last Saturday’s golf tournament

Last Saturday, while most of southern Ontario was being pelted with thunder, lightning and at times torrential rain, the Duntroon Highlands Golf Club course, (10 kilometres south of Collingwood), was bathed in gentle sunshine all day while grey threatening clouds lingered nearby.

The setting was perfect, for the annual Toome family Collingwood Open Golf Tournament, keeping spirits and scores high!

After the battle with the golf course was settled, some individual highlights were identified to the gathered golfers, families and friends at Peeter Toome’s family’s villa on Collingwood’s Gold Coast. Men’s champion with a score of 89 was Joe McGrath. Ladies champion was Brianne McGrath with a score of 93. In addition Brianne also won the ladies longest drive and closest to the pin. Men’s longest drive winner was Mark Vaher, Peeter Oolup won closest to the pin, Jaan Saun won fewest putts, and Allar Viinamäe was identified as the most honest golfer.

What made this annual event extra special was that the gathering was entertained with live music from – “Rosie & the OGs”. Amongst the tunes the band played were several Rolling Stones hits and some dance numbers which got people of all ages moving. What was very heart warming, was seeing the number of energetic, well behaved young children under the age of eight scurrying about, oblivious to the adults ‘going-ons’. Well done to Peeter and family, for another well run, friendly annual event, where any golf course disappointments are quickly forgotten within the camaraderie of the many guests.
