Scholarship Honors Artist Walter Jaager

When Evaleen Jaager Roy joined Emily Carr's Board of Governors - first as Director and then as Board Chair - she brought with her expertise and enthusiasm for business, philanthropy and higher education.
But it is Evaleen's love and respect for her family, combined with her commitment to the university, which inspired her, together with her husband Peter Roy, to create a scholarship in her father's name earlier this year. The "Walter Jaager Excellence in Painting Scholarship" will provide an annual $1,000 scholarship to the student with the highest academic placement within the painting program.
This scholarship recognizes and honours Walter Jaager, who was born in 1930 in Tallinn, Estonia. He subsequently fled his homeland during the Second World War for Sweden, where he grew up before immigrating to Canada in 1950.
Walter Jaager

Mr. Jaager has been a lifelong artist, and he continues to be passionate about painting even now, at 82. A sample of his work will be seen in the upcoming book “Global Estonia: 150 Urban Scenes in Art” to be released later this year.
Emily Carr wishes to thank Evaleen Jaager Roy for her many contributions to the university; for her generosity in honouring her father and recognizing the value of an arts education; and for the opportunities that the v Excellence in Painting Scholarship will provide Emily Carr students in the years to come. (Emily Carr University is in Vancouver.)
