“Jutustus Siberimaast. Fotograaf Vello Hindreus 1930-2020”
Eesti Mälu Instituudi näituse avamine
Eesti keeles/in Estonian
Vello Hindreus was deported from Estonia to Sibera when he was 19 years old. His journey to Siberia started from Ülemiste station in Tallinn and ended in Sonski settlement (today Sonskoje) in Khakassia. Because Vello had a camera with him when he settled, the result is several hundred preserved pictures of Siberian nature, everyday life of deportees and local people. Compared to other photographic sources known so far, Vello’s pictures reveal the life and situation of the deportees much more thoroughly. Few photo collections of Estonians deported to Siberia have been preserved in a similar volume and in their entirety.
