Watching the French Foreign Legion march down the Champs-Élysées during a recent Bastille Day parade presented a striking display of military discipline. Moving at eighty-eight paces per minute, flanked by bearded sappers with leather aprons and axes, the Legion carries an aura of mystery and anonymity. It raised a question: in that anonymity, are there any Estonians to be found amid their ranks?
