Spend a Day Hanging Out with Generation Z in the Põhjala Factory District
Põhjala Factory is located in the suburb of Tallinn called Kopli. Kopli is the northernmost district of Tallinn, located on a peninsula. In 1909, Tsarist Russia decided to carry out a major naval construction program, and three private sector naval shipyards were established in Kopli. They employed thousands of workers. The workers’ barracks at the end of the peninsula were not located on streets, but were called “lines” (e.g. you lived on Line 2). Since then, Kopli has possessed the image of a working class neighbourhood with a strong Russian influence.
