The long awaited memorial to Konstantin Päts

Recently, the long awaited memorial to Estonia’s first President, Konstantin Päts, was ceremonially opened in the back garden of the Estonian Theatre, in downtown Tallinn.

The statue is the creation of sculptor Vergo Vernik and architect Toivo Tammik. Presiding at the proceedings were Lutheran Archbishop Urmas Viilma and Estonian Orthodox Metropolitan Stefanus. Participating were President Alar Karis, Tallinn Major Mihhail Kõlvart, Rein Veidemann, chair of the memorial selection committee and President Päts’ grandson Madis Päts. The event was organized by the Konstantin Päts Museum Inc and the Heritage Society.
