Fishin’ in Northern Ontario

At the end of May, Harry (x2), Hans, Madis, Jaan and the boys (7 in total) drove north-west of Sudbury to go on their annual fishing trip. Some members of this group have been going to this lake for 40 years because the pickerel fishing is superb. For the first time some of life's creature comforts were sought and a former Hudson's Bay trading post cabin was used to house the fishing enthusiasts. Solar power electricity and a propane stove and refrigerator brought some modern amenities to the completely isolated cabin. In the past camping in tents passed for luxurious living. Fresh pan fried pickerel was consumed for lunch and Harry Kopti made his famous kalasupp for his fellow fishermen. The best pickerel fishing occurred at dusk with every evening bringing fishing success.

And every evening one member of the group had the responsibility for preparing a gourmet dinner for everyone. Madis' hakklihakaste stands out as a culinary tour de force. Did I mention about the one that got away………
