On Thursday, May 22nd, after the launch of Estonian Music Week, Now In Service kept the party going at the Salakõrts (Secret Saloon) at Division 88 in Toronto, located on the inconspicuously hip Geary Lane. This event recreated a cherished tradition from the 1984 ESTO Global Estonian Festival, when Estonians gathered at Palais Royal for an evening of dancing and singing their favourite songs.
Now in Service, formerly known as Tarkus, kept the energy super high across their sets, with the hooks of their original songs and the sing-alongs and grooves of cover tunes from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s.
This Toronto-based band, which had previously performed for the Estonian community throughout the 1980s, is composed of Paul Kako (keyboards and vocals), Indrek Kanne (bass), and John Canjar (drums). You can find their music on Spotify.
