As promised before, here is a gallery to show the benefits of using a 50mm fixed lens. It's a small but mighty addition to any photographer's equipment collection. It's a pleasurable tool to work with, which allows you to capture life the way it is. While it has a quick focusing mechanism, it also has a wide aperture, which allows one to concentrate on the subject matter and bring out its best properties.
Though you can't go very close to the subject, as the closest focusing distance is 0.45m, in most cases it works great.
50mm is usually my prime go-to lens, as it allows lots of light in, which makes it a great choice for most indoor events. Portraits, reportage, nature, and street photography benefit a great deal from it as well. The following gallery consists of photos I took while a groom got ready for his wedding ceremony. As you can see, it's perfect for taking photos of small items and activities. Pay attention to the blurry background — a result of using a large aperture (f/1.4).
