Kanada Day in Tallinn Raises Nearly $2k for Jõekääru Estonian Children’s Camp (+ gallery)

Toronto — Nearly 700 Canadians, Estonians, and friends gathered at Põhjala Brewery in Tallinn on July 1 to celebrate Canada Day and the growing, dynamic relationship between Canada and Estonia.

An outdoor pick-up road hockey game featured Estonian national team captain Robert Rooba, who signed autographs for fans, and a ceremonial puck drop with Canadian Ambassador Laird Hindle, Estonian Ambassador to Canada Margus Rava, Kanada Day in Tallinn Committee members, and celebrity referee Jonathan Zifkin.

A fundraising raffle raised nearly $2,000 in support of Jõekääru Estonian Children’s Camp, a vital Canadian-Estonian cultural institution.

The Kanada Day in Tallinn 2025 Organizing Committee and Jõekääru Children’s Camp extend heartfelt thanks to all prize donors for their generous contributions, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Estonian Ice Hockey Federation, the Office of the President of Estonia, Rae Golf, the Seattle Kraken, the Baltic Canadian Council, and Põhjala Brewery, and to everyone who purchased raffle tickets.

“We’re especially grateful to our event partners for their invaluable support in making Kanada Day 2025 such a success: the Embassy of Canada in Estonia, the Association of Canadian Estonians (ACE), the Estonian National Ice Hockey Federation, the Estonian Foundation of Canada, VEMU, and Estonian Music Week,” said Kanada Day Committee and ACE co-chair Märt Matsoo.

“Canada played a leading international role in the early 1990s in reestablishing diplomatic ties with Estonia,” said ACE co-chair Marcus Kolga. “On July 1, we were proud to celebrate the first-ever resident Canadian ambassador to Estonia and the growing cooperation between our two countries, which the professionals who belong to ACE are eager to support and advance on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate Canada, our Estonian heritage, and the enduring friendship between Canada and Estonia!
