Korp!

Tallinnas algasid pidustused 25. novembril ekskursiooniga KUMUs spetsiaalse giidi saatel.

Korp! Vironia’s 125th Anniversary Celebrations in Riga and Tallinn

The Estonian fraternity Vironia was founded on November 26th, 1900 at Riga Polytechnical University. To celebrate its 125th anniversary, members of the fraternity (vironused) gathered from around the world in Tallinn during the last week of November. Over sixty vironused, including four from Canada, travelled to Riga to visit what is now the University of Latvia and the areas around Riga where the founding members of the fraternity studied and lived. In addition, visits were made to three fraternities, Talavia, Arctica, and Selonija, that were supportive of the early efforts of Vironia to get established. Selonija invited Vironia to attend the celebration of their 145th anniversary which was held in Riga’s Small Guild Hall.

In Tallinn, celebrations began with a special guided tour of KUMU (the Estonian Art Museum). The next evening, November 26th, celebrated the opening of the new Vironia home located in the shadow of Tall Hermann tower. Vironia’s Family Evening gala ball was held at the Tallinn Cruise terminal with music provided by famed Estonian saxophonist Raivo Tafenau and this band. On Saturday, a formal ceremony (aktus) was held at the Estonian Business School. The formal culmination of the anniversary occurred when the brotherhood event (vennastus) took place at the Estonia Concert Hall. The final group photo, captured by drone and camera, featured over 400 members of Vironia as well as guests.

Photos are from Vironia’s collection, as well as the ball photo by Mihkel Leis and the Estonia Concert Hall images by Tanel Aavistu.
