Mati Saastamoinen wins Toronto Estonian Chess Club Spring Chess Tournament

The Toronto Estonian Chess Club held their 5 round Fall Active Swiss system tournament (30 minutes per player) on April 20th, at the Estonian Baptist Church. Six players entered the tournament with the hope of winning at the “Game of Kings”.

Mati Saastamoinen won first place with 4 points. Second place went to Jaak Järve with 4 points, third place went to Brendan Munro with 3 points.

The rest of the field results were as follows: Andy Kõresaar 2 points, Greg Wilson 1 point, Erik Spirka 0 points.

Arne Roosman also awarded $100 from the Axel Roosman Memorial Fund to the first place tournament winner Mati Saastamoinen.

Thank you to Mai Kipper from the Estonian Baptist Church who was our gracious host for our spring chess tournament and who made sure we had hot coffee and fresh baked desserts throughout the tournament.
