NATO accelerating innovation internationally with the DIANA program

In this era of global conflicts, most people have at least some idea of what NATO does. You have probably heard of Article 5, the Alliance’s presence in Estonia, and the recommended 2% defence spending threshold for NATO’s member states.

But did you know that recently NATO has also started supporting technology start-ups? And that Estonia plays an important part in that process?

...DIANA focuses on dual-use technologies, meaning the solutions can also be applied in civil environments.

In 2023, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization launched DIANA — a Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic — to accelerate the implementation of new technologies for defence and security purposes. On one hand, supporting technology companies will increase the competitive edge of NATO in the world. At the same time, DIANA focuses on dual-use technologies, meaning the solutions can also be applied in civil environments.
