PHOTOS – Pan Am Rhythmic Gymnasticis – Group competition

Saturday July 18 was Day 2 for group competition of rhythmic gymnastics. The competition featured 2 hoops and 3 clubs. Similar to the individual event, the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) sets the apparatus programme in a 2-year competition cycle and one routine will always feature two different apparatuses (3+2). The group has between 2:15 – 2:30 minutes to complete a certain number of body group movements (leaps, pivots, balances and flexibility) all while maintaining a relationship with the apparatus. The apparatus must remain in motion and be in constant exchange between the five gymnasts. An international panel of judges evaluates the routine for its difficulty and execution. Medals were awarded today for group all-round, the group's combined score from both routines (ribbon on July 17, hoop + clubs on July 18). Brazil took Gold, USA took Silver and Cuba took Bronze.

For those interested in the photographic aspects, the group competition certainly needed a wide lens, such as 70 mm. Other wise, the settings were the same as for individual performances. Although there were a few opportunities for individual gymnast close-ups, the gallery features photos showing as many members of the team as possible.
