Rogers Reduces OMNI – TV, broadcasting

Rogers Cable Empire, in its constant desire for profits has taken a page out of the playbook of greed. It has cut out many of the broadcasts that constitute the backbone of ethnic broadcasting.

They have also laid off 65 staff, from boroadcasts, 39, that were cancelled.

The latest were Chardi Kalaa- Punjabi magazine weekly; In (Kultura) – Polish magazine weekly; Insieme , Italian magazine daily; Mandarin Weekend – Mandarin weekly.

Since June of last year the following shows were cancelled: Aaeam – Tamil magazine weekly; Badai Ho ! – Hindi Magazine weekly; Canada Contacto – Portugese magazine (periodical); Cantonese Business Week – Business week;
Edo Kai Tora – Greek magazine week; Liga Logia – Greek weekly news; Na luzie – Polish magazine weekly; Noi Oggie – Italian magazine weekly; Hlliad
Obyektiv – Ukranian magazine weekly; OMNI News – Portugese edition daily; Pomeriggio Italiano Italian magazine daily; Sviitohliad – Ukrainian weekly news; Trendy Zone – Cantonese magazine weekly; Vamos Ao Baixinho – Portuguese magazine weekly; Wai Wai Wide – Japanese weekly; Z Ukosa – Polish weekly news.

Within that period a total of twenty-one shows have been cancelled, which has affected twelve language groups and over six million Canadians. For those who find these cancellations a withering of our multicultural fabric please send emails to : Jean-Pierre Blais, Chairman of the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), Jean-Pierre.Blais@crtc.gc.ca. Rogers is a moving towards a monopoly and should be stopped or at least curtailed or we won't have much choice.
