On Thursday July 31st, I made my fourth visit to Seedrioru Estonian Summer Camp. There, we held two four-round chess tournaments.
Among the väiksed/keskmised (youngest and middle age group), in 1st place was Kristjan with 3.5 points. In second place was Raivo (3 points), Emilia (3 points), Aili (3 points), and Everest (3 points). In the oldest age category (suured), 1st place was won by Kustav with 4 points. In second place was Halle (3 points). The winners all received Kalev candies.

For the art aspect of the day, we explored the art of doodling with black sharpies and then added watercolour paint for impact. The results were outstanding. There was so much individual creativity, which was the object of the lesson. The four days that I conducted the chess and art lessons with the campers left me with a profound sense of accomplishment in seeing every camper engage fully in their creative imagination not only on the chess board but also on the canvas.
Chess is not only a game, but a learning tool that teaches strategy, logistics, timing, and humility. All valuable in making life decisions. I was so impressed when the camp counsellors told me how the campers actually practice chess in their cabins in preparation for the tournaments. Kudos to all of the Seedrioru camp counsellors, kitchen staff, lifeguards, and support personnel for all of the excellent work you did to provide an amazing summer experience for all of the campers. Your diligence in providing the best camp for the campers has created wonderful memories and many new friends for them to meet again next summer.
Hästi tehtud Seedrioru Lastelaager!
