Seedrioru Turns 70: Seedrioru as a Cultural Center (2)

I have left the third land use directive, summer festivals for organizations, for last. This directive has been fulfilled in spades. The term festivals, or suvepäevad in the history book, has always been interpreted somewhat loosely and has included winter activities as well. A wide range of organizations have made use of Seedrioru over the past 7 decades. The first such event in 1956, Laulupäev or Songday I, was followed by number II in 1958, III in 1962 and IV in 1966. Hundreds of singers in choirs from Canada and the USA took part, united in the quintessentially Estonian desire to express oneself in song. But the history book asks, “Kuhu jäi V Eesti Laulupäev Kanadas?” What happened to the 5th Estonian Day of Song?
