February 2nd marks the anniversary of the 1920 peace treaty, commonly known as “Tartu Rahu”, between Estonia and Soviet Russia. Jaan Poska led the delegation at the negotiations in Tartu. The treaty, among other important issues, specifically stipulates that the Russians, in perpetuity, will never attack Estonia – a promise that Russia has never honoured. Recently, at the memorial to Poska are most of Estonia’s former foreign ministers, also the current one (from left): Rein Lang, Trivimi Velliste, Eva-Maria Liimets, Siim Kallas, Riivo Sinijärv, Urmas Reinsalu, Kristiina Ojuland, Jaan Manitski.
