The new Ontario Progressive Conservative leader is Doug Ford, not Christine Elliott

The Ontario Progressive Conservatives (PC) leader is Doug Ford, not Christine Elliott who led in the polls up to the first ballot of the leadership vote.

There was drama with rumors of poll fixing going on, the three not leading in the polls wanting the leadership election extended another week. They went to court even, but no go.

The first vote had Christine Elliott leading but after the vote the last person had to drop out, all supporters of Tanya Granic Allen went to Ford and now Ford was leading on the second ballot.

There was still hope for Elliott with Caroline Mulroney dropping out surely her supporters would go to her. Not all. A healthy portion went to Ford. But after the third and final ballot went to Ford, it was just by a whisper.

Elliott did not give up however, despite the fact that they were family friends, and did not concede that night. The following day Elliott and Ford did make up and Ford was declared leader.

The following day the polls were interesting. Only 48% of the public wanted Ford as premier yet 42% supported the PC's, 22% backed the Liberals and 16% the New Democrats.

The provincial election is on June 9 of this year and Ford needs to stick to his promises and avoid making any gaffes. To remind him of that they had Tim Hudak, former leader of PC's who made the statement that he would fire 100,000 civil servants and lost the election, commenting two days after the vote.
