Tory this time held the lead since May in a hard fought race involving close to ninety all candidates meetings against Olivia Chow, the former leader of the race, and socialist. The scandal ridden Mayor Rob Ford was diagnosed with cancer and replaced by his brother Doug who put on a heavy race but lost to Tory.
Tory ran a distinguished race featuring a transit plan with fifty three stops running on existing rail lines. His calm image was a contrast to the dope smoking, drunken image of the mayor and the scratching image of Chow. Later the campaign replaced the mayor with his brother Doug who really turned up the heat on Tory. Throughout that Tory took the high road, and won.
On his opening speech Tory said he will try to bring the council together to get things done and reach out to the province and the federal governments to receive funding for his transit plan. He also plans to reach out to Olivia Chow to bring her into the government, maybe in charge of government housing which is now a mess. Good luck Mayor John Tory.
