Tuleme koju mängima, tuleme koju puhkama, vanad soõbrad kohtuvad, ja uued ees sind ootavad.

Translation: Let's come home to play, let's come home to rest, old friends will meet again and new friends await you there!


These words, taken from the lyrics of the brand new Jõekääru Alumni Laager (JKAL) theme song, truly sum up the spirit of JKAL 2022 and indeed Jõekääru Laste Suvekodu itself. After 4 long years of hiatus, JK alumni, partners and friends gathered in Udora Ontario to participate in an epic fundraiser. The (normally) bi-ennial weekend is aimed at both raising funds to support the building of a future attraction at Jõekääru and giving every adult the opportunity to have the full camp experience, let loose and play like a kid again.

The weekend began on the sunny afternoon of Friday June 10th with registration. Campers received the new JKAL t-shirt (generously sponsored by Northern Birch Credit Union) and were invited to burn their names on the commemorative plaque. As we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of Jõekääru Laste Suvekodu, the suur saal was laid out like a gallery with hundreds of photos from the past 70 years of laager. Campers got to marvel at how much has changed and yet, how many things have remained familiar over many decades.
