Saturday September 17 matches at Polson Pier featured the women's semi-finals and the bronze medal match. The gold medal match will be played on Sunday.
The first match featured two evenly-matched Swiss teams, seventh seeded Zumkehr and Heidrich against eighth seeded Forrer and Verge-Depre.
The ranking proved to be accurate in this contest. The second match saw Rio Olympic gold medalists Ludwig and Walkenhorst from Germany beat the Brazilian team of Franca and Antunes.
The predicted rain held off until the bronze medal match between the losing teams from the semi-finals. While the morning photography was conducted from lower levels, the afternoon rainstorm prompted the photographer to seek higher ground, protected by the umbrellas that protected several TV cameras. The Swiss team prevailed, guaranteeing that country two of the three women's medals in the tournament. The on-lookers were treated to spectacular action and the players expressed their appreciation for the enthusiasm of the Toronto fans.
