Estonians in Montreal are an eclectic bunch, enjoying the cooking of kringel and listening to a scholarly lecture – all during one session. On April 15, chief cook Beatrice Cardin put those gathered at the Estonian church through a hands-on lesson of preparing the dough and cooking the Estonian party specialty ‘kringel’. The event, organized by the Montreal Estonian Society, was augmented with a presentation by Dr. Anu Rae, professor of history at Tartu University of Estonia, on how medical science developed in Estonia. On May 6, the Society is continuing this tempo in its cultural calendar with the showing of “Apteeker Melchoir”, an Estonian feature film that has attracted numerous reviews and wide media attention in Estonia.
