This weekend - Friday May 12 and Saturday May 13 the 2017 Koop Cup is being held at the Pan Am Centre in Markham. This is a rhythmic gymnastics competition where 12 other countries compete - coming from as far away as China. The beautiful sport is now accepted in the Olympics and teaches young women grace, strength and performance skills.

Kalev Estienne – the hosting club – is the oldest in Canada and it's founder – Evelyn Koop – introduced the sport to Canada many decades ago. She was an Olympic level judge and now in her mid 80's – helped champion getting the sport into the Olympics. Evelyn is a story unto her own….she brought coaches from Europe where the sport is know and they in turn have opened clubs of their own- many of the clubs across Canada originated with Evelyn and she has also spread the sport to other countries. She has received may accolades over the years – awards and recognition for her contribution to this wonderful sport. Evelyn has met Pierre Trudeau, Queen Elizabeth, and many more who have congratulated her for her life's work.

This event is a family oriented competition with tickets at the door for $10 Friday, Saturday $20, both days $25, seniors and students $5 and kids under 4 free.
