A Great Night for the Academic Organizations’ Harbour Cruise!

On the evening of Thursday June 8th, members from many academic organizations gathered at Poulson Pier in Toronto, to board the Empress of Canada for a night on the water, cruising Toronto Harbour.

Throughout the day, it threatened to rain and the temperatures had significantly dropped from the previous days’ tropical highs. To our delight, the evening was clear and all were in good spirits.

Korporatsioon Vironia had organized the event. As their Senior (President), vil! Tom Koger noted in his opening remarks, the cruise should have happened in 2020, when Vironia was marking its 120th anniversary. The onset of Covid interrupted those plans. Now three years later, when we can once again come together as a group, Vironia’s anniversary has come and gone. However, 2023 marks the 110th anniversary of Korporatsioon Rotalia. A sizeable number of Rotalia members from Estonia were in attendance on the boat. They had come to Toronto to take part in a summer kommerss, to mark the beginning of their anniversary celebrations.

We sailed along the shoreline. The silhouette of the Toronto skyline by night was magnificent. At timely moments, various passengers led the group in song. As we were on the water, it was fitting that the first song was the well known favourite “Viljandi paadimees” or the “Boatman of Viljandi”!

No sooner than we had boarded the boat, the three hour cruise came to an end. All those there left with an anticipation of the next event where all academic organizations could come together as one.
