Not only do residents enjoy the Estonian foods, but also organized games, trips, saunas, and sing-alongs. But perhaps the most popular for our seniors is access to their own private hair salon.
Study after study shows the benefits of regular hair care for seniors being vital to their dignity, self-esteem, and overall mood. “Having their hair done can be the highlight of the day for Ehatare residents. Self-care never gets old.” says Veronika Viinamae, Ehatare Executive Director. A simple hand massage during a manicure and a relaxing shampoo is shown to significantly reduce stress.
Ehatare has always had a hair salon that is well used, but time and wear has taken its toll. We were able to do a complete renovation of Ehatare’s Hair Salon thanks to a generous donation from Akadeemilised Kanada Eesti Naised (AKEN), legacy donor and former Ehatare resident Ragne Toming, and other Ehatare supporters.
Using input from our current hairdresser and our design team, we have been able to completely transform the salon. The new modern décor provides a fresh and relaxing atmosphere while also making the space safer, user-friendly, and accessible to all residents.
The AKEN Hair Salon will be fully open for resident and visitors to use this April. We will be organizing an official opening and ribbon cutting ceremony in a few weeks together with the organization AKEN to honour their, and Ragne Toming’s generous contribution.
Thank you again to those who have supported Ehatare residents by contributing to this vital and beneficial project. Without your generous donations this transformation would not have been possible. Stay tuned for further updates!
