Gallery: when is it wise to leave your bicycle home?

Though this winter has been very mild so far, it's slowly starting to show its face. In between writing this story and today, as I'm writing these lines, Toronto has experienced heavy snowfall, strong gusts of wind, and lower temperatures. Meanwhile, I experienced another fall. A mild one, but one that was completely avoidable, and my fault, so I'm not even going to mention anything more about it.

Although the snow has melted, the wind is still blowing in gusts, temperatures will drop, and it appears that a significant winter storm is expected to hit Toronto. Winter seems to be arriving finally.

Hopefully, tonight is not going to be the second time that I have to leave my bike behind and travel on foot. Will I live to tell the tale? Unfortunately, I don't have my camera with me right now, but perhaps the real “joy” of winter can be experienced tomorrow anyway.

Below is a gallery from one of Toronto's snowiest days in the past ten years. On the 18th of January, 2021, the streets and sidewalks were quite inaccessible. I walked to where I was working at the Toronto Estonian House and captured interesting moments and things I saw during my walk. It was lucky that I didn't have to cycle that day, as the sidewalks were full of snow and the roads were in really bad shape. The photos and especially the videos below should give you a better overview of when it's best to leave your bike at home!

Stay safe while cycling, everybody!
