Number two candidate for Toronto mayor, John Tory

John Tory is running for Toronto mayor, again. He spoke at a meeting of the Canadian Ethnic Media Association (CEMA) where he was greeted by Chair Madeline Ziniak, a long time associate. The first time he lost by a slim margin to David Miller, then he ran for Premier of Ontario and lost his seat to Kathleen Wynne in Dalton McGuinty's government.

This time Tory has taken the number two slot from Mayor Rob Ford, who went into drug rehab, second to former Member of Parliament Olivia Chow. When Ford crashes and burns, finally, Tory will move to number one spot, leapfrogging Chow.

Tory's credo is that he wants the city to be Liveable, Affordable and Functional. He would like to see the Scarborough subway and the subway feeder line. He would like to see the north west part of the city with a medical school at York University to co-ordinate with the new Humber Regional Hospital digital system.

Estonian Life asked Tory what he would emphasize, saying that Ford's great appeal to the Ford Nation was that he'll save them money and he keeps showing that he has. Tory answered that this was his platform when first ran for mayor. He would cut back the bureaucracy, privatize the east garbage collection, put in the subway to Scarborough and get people to work on time and save the city more than Ford has.

Tory reminded people that his experience as President of Rogers Media and Broadcasting holds him in good stead. He will co-operate with city council, not fight with them and present a dignified image for the position of mayor and the city.
