$1000 bill to EERO
nov. 1, 2013 Estonian Life No. 44 2013
At the recent last evening of the Estdocs film festival the documentary "Blood type" was screened. It's a film about Estonian soldiers on mission in Afghanistan. The film features a soldier of ethnic Russian heritage, who's fluent in Estonian and who volunteers for a second tour in spite of the fact he's had a leg amputated due to a battlefront injury.
It's appropriate that as a kick-off to a special fund raising effort, Ellen Leivat (right), chair of the fund raising group AKEN, hands over a $1000 bill to Mari Ann Tammark, chair of EERO (Estonian Ecumenical Relief Organization) which is the official conduit for donations going to the Carolin Illenzeer Fund in Estonia. The Fund is a registered charity in Estonia which supports children of soldiers killed or seriously wounded in action while on mission. A donation box is available in the Toronto Estonian Credit Union and donations can also be made to a special account.
